Interested in having a date with your other half at the cinema? Then check out the movie showtimes that you are interested in and take a good look at the following upcoming movies which will be among the most watched films of the year. There is a bit of drama, horror and even comedy, which means you have enough choices to pick from so you and your partner enjoy your date and make it an unforgettable one.

Me Before You

Movie showtimes Me Before You
If you and your partner are the romantic kind, 'Me Before You', which comes out on the 2nd of June, could be the ideal pick to enjoy a relaxing and fun time at the cinema. This romantic drama film is based on the novel of the same title which was released by Jojo Moyes in 2012. It stars Emilia Clarke who plays the part of Louisa Clark and Sam Claflin who plays the part of Will Traynor, a young, adventurous man who lives a million adventures a day until an accident leaves him quadriplegic. Louisa, his caregiver, will do her best to take care of him and get him out of his deep depression by taking him on holidays to Mauritius where she reveals him she is in love with him. Get some tissues ready!

The Conjuring 2

Couples who usually go for the latest movie showtimes are most probably counting down the days until the 9th of June finally arrives because that is when 'The Conjuring 2' will be released. Who said that having a date at the cinema means you have to watch a romantic movie? Watching a scary film can make a couple have a good time and sit tightly together because everyone knows feeling scared makes most people feel the need to have someone close to them, and 'The Conjuring 2' will definitely get you very scared. In this sequel, Ed and Lorraine Warren will travel all the way to England to investigate some scary poltergeist activity in a private house.

Finding Dory

And if you and your other half want to have a good laugh during your date at the cinema, make sure you take a good look at the movie showtimes for 'Finding Dory', which comes out on the 16th of June, and book your tickets as soon as possible because this is going to be one of the most popular movies in the coming months. If you have watched 'Finding Nemo', you most probably remember Dory for being the funniest character in the movie thanks to her forgetfulness. In this second movie, where Dory will be joined by Nemo and his father Martin to look for her family, there will be plenty of funny moments so you and your date will leave the cinema in high spirits.

The 8th Asian Film Awards takes place on
27th March, at City of Dreams, Macau
Now into its 8th year, the awards ceremony for the annual Asian Film Awards (AFA) will happen on Thursday, the 27th of March this year. It will take place at the magnificent Dancing Water Theatre within Macau's City of Dreams, which is a casino and tourist resort. The AFA - which is often regarded as the Asian equivalent of the Oscars - was first introduced in 2007, and recognises the cinematic achievements of filmmakers within Asia.

From more than a thousand films, 26 of them were successfully nominated for the 14 different award categories this year; these nominations come from 13 countries and regions. The categories celebrate and honour the achievements of various groups of people, such as actors, screenwriters, cinematographers, and costume designers, among others. Six entries were nominated for this year's Best Film award: No Man's Land, The Grandmaster, The Great Passage, The Lunchbox, Snowpiercer, and Stray Dogs. The winners will be determined by a panel consisting of distinguished professionals in the film industry. Peter Ho-Sun Chan will head the panel, and his panel is joined alongside martial artist and filmmaker Donnie Yen, actress Carina Lau, and together with a number of judges from across the region. This includes Singapore film director Eric Khoo. Meanwhile, Jeon Do-yeon, who has won many awards including Best Actress at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival, has been appointed as the ambassador for the 8th AFA.

Just as noteworthy, the Singaporean family film Ilo Ilo bagged two nominations - namely 29 year old Anthony Chen for Best Director, and Malaysian actress Yeo Yann Yann for Best Supporting Actress. Ilo Ilo was presented with the Camera d'Or award at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, and subsequently took home four awards at the 50th Golden Horse Awards.

The theatre shown is Lido 1
In addition to allowing users to check movie schedules and book tickets through the app, cinime allows users to unlock rewards and enter contests through a unique in-cinema feature. At the theatre, the cinema screen will prompt users to turn on the app before the commercials. The app will then provide special content, such as interactive contests where users can take part in quizzes shown on the theatre screen through the app in real time. Bonus content can also be unlocked when various commercials are shown, without a need for a 3G or WiFi connection. There is also a feature to scan cinema posters in exchange for "goodies".

With a black background, the app interface is appropriate for use in the dark theatre while the ads are playing, through patrons will be prompted to keep their phones away when the actual movie begins. The latest update even adds a calender reminder feature to the list. This is probably by far the most advanced and interactive cinema app that has been introduced.

App size: 1.56MB
Free to download. For iOS and Android.

iCathay allows users to book movie tickets, view the details of their favourite movies and access the latest promotions at Cathay with the purple-themed app. As with Shaw's cinime and GV's iGV app, users can view the seating plan and select their own seats when booking tickets through iCathay. Users can also submit their feedback and suggestions through the app. The app is simple and requires minimal app permissions when downloaded through Google Play so it sure is a clean cut app.

Free to download. For iOS and Android.

With the iGV app users can book tickets and view information on cinemas or movies conveniently on their phones. It is also integrated with the GV Movie Club loyalty programme as it allows users to log in to their accounts to enjoy discounts. The app is also equipped with a feature that allows patrons at GV City Square to enter the theatres using a QR code that acts as their movie ticket. Together with less than frequent updates for the app, it also appears that some patrons have reported issues booking their tickets through the app.
